The Little Kid with the Big Green Hand

by Matthew Gray Gubler:

A great read to teach the importance of empathy.  The girl with the big green hand is always trying to hide what she sees as a deformed green hand. She is embarrassed and wants to keep that part of herself hidden. But what happens when the point of view changes and the hand tells us how he feels? He is attached to a large pink blob that takes him everywhere but where he wants to go. This is a must read to introduce putting the feelings of others before your own.

Belladonna
by Adalyn Grace:

Signa’s life has always been touched by Death. She has come to realize that she has some immunity to dying and can even see and communicate with Death itself. When Signa finds herself at Thorn Grove she begins to settle in with her estranged family, but quickly realizes that her cousin is being poisoned. Uncovering this mystery alongside Death, Signa finds herself confronted with societal and moral quandaries. You will find yourself immersed in this gothic mystery with Signa and her relationship with Death. When finished, continue Signa’s journey with Death in the sequel, Foxglove.

The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn

by Shawn Harris:

Once upon a time there was a magical land where there lived a Teeny-Weeny Unicorn.  He lived with his family in a palace where everything was too big for him. Everything was extra-large and he was Teeny Weeny. When His siblings played chess, they used him for a pawn. Teeny-Weeny runs away and begins to wonder if he is too small or if he is just the right size. This is a great read to remind us how to live in a world we may not fit into. A great conversation starter with delightful illustrations.
